Holiday – First interpretation of Philip Barry’s play in reference to non-conformity is a pleasant film. Johnny Case finds himself married to a millionaire’s daughter and he must come to a decision between a career in big business or living life as a holiday. 1938 version includes Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant among others. (95 minutes, 1938)
The Sinister Urge – Dedicated cops Duncan and Moore set out to beat the “smut film racket,” which is run by a flashy blonde. Illustrates with complete confidence how pictures of plump women dressed in merely their underwear can be a main cause of adolescent delinquency. Cast includes Kenne Duncan, Duke Moore, Carl Anthony, Jean Fontaine, Dino Fantini, and Jeanne Willardson. (75 minutes, 1960)
Only You – Pleasant confection in reference to a young girl who invests her entire life looking for her perfect mate whose name was summoned up on a Ouija board. Cast includes Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey, Jr., Bonnie Seek, Joaquim De Almeida, Fisher Stevens, and Phyllis Newman. (108 minutes, 1994)
The Search – Moving drama of American cadet Clift regarding for concentration camp survivor Jandl in postwar Berlin, when the boy’s mother despondently looks all over the camps for him. Beautifully performed and directed. Cast includes Montgomery Clift, Ivan Jandl, Aline MacMahon, Jarmila Novotna, and Wendell Corey. (105 minutes, 1948)
Fantomas against Scotland Yard – Mocking cliffhanger-type venture story, with Marais as superb felon involved in sports orientated adventures. Cast includes Jean Marais, Louis De Funes, Mylene Demongeot, and Henri Serre. (104 minutes, 1966)
Say It Isn’t So – Pleasingly un-ambitious Klein falls for the new hairdresser in town Graham. They have consensual sex and then Klein finds out that Graham is his sister. It is a full-blown flop. Cast includes Heather Graham, Chris Klein, Orlando Jones, Sally Field, Richard Jenkins, John Rothman, Brent Briscoe, and Sarah Silverman.
