Never before has it been so wonderful to be a movie buff. Back in the day the only way that you could even see a film was to visit the movie theater. Later on, videos came out and you could get a videotape at the store but the movie that you wanted may have been out-of-stock and you still had to wait. Inferno – American returns to New York from school in Rome to explore the hideous death of his sibling, and finds “sinister moms” inflicting paranormal chaos on both sides of Atlantic. Surreal, mesmerizing shocker by Italian terror maestro Argento does not make much sense, but it has a lot of style. Cast includes Leigh McCloskey, Irene Marvel, Sacha Pitoeff, Daria Nicolodi, Eleonora Giorgi, Veronica Lazar, and Alida Valli. (107 minutes,’84)
Clue – Silly and insipid mystery based on the popular board game of the same name with all the identifiable characters Mrs. Peacock, Colonel Mustard, Miss Red, et al. gathered for a murderous day in a Victorian mansion. Everyone tries enormously hard but there is nothing they can do to save this weak film. Cast includes Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Ponder, and Howard Hesseman. (87 minutes,’85)
The Accidental Tourist – This movie tells the tale of Macon Leary, who is lethargic after the death of his son. This is compounded more when his wife decides to leave him because he will not snap out of it. With a divorce around the corner he finds himself mixed up with a new woman, who is helping bring him back to life. Now his wife decides to have him back, and he is faced with more tough questions. William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, Geena Davis, Amy Wright, and Bill Pullman star. (1988 Drama)
Say It Isn’t So – Cheerily un-ambitious Klein falls for the new hairdresser in town Graham. They have consensual sex and then Klein finds out that Graham is his sister. It is a absolute flop. Like Water for Chocolate – Striking and sensuous film from a work of fiction by Laura Esquivel set in the early part of the 20th century – a youthful woman’s life is conditioned by her solemn and unbending mom, who treats her terribly. Opulent storyline, not without humor, with an admirable cast and a top of the line performance from lead actress Cavazos. Cast includes Lumi Cavazos, Marco Leonardi, Regina Tome, Mario Ivan Martinez, and Ada Carrasco. (113 minutes,’92)
