Perhaps you have heard that Squidoo is a website that allows writers to make money from their content? That is true, but what is a Squidoo lens? Basically, a lens is the term Squidoo uses to describe a page on their site.
The pages on Squidoo. ’s website are built from modules. There are over a hundred different types of modules available. They can be used to add all kinds of content to the lens. When you build a lens on Squidoo, you pick the types on modules that are needed to display the type of information you want to use on your lens.
There are content modules that can be used to display text, photos and videos to the Squidoo lens. These are the basic modules that most Squids use to build the content part of their lenses. However, there are other modules that can allow the writer to easily add relevant content, such as the Wikipedia module or the Washington Post module.
There are also modules that allow the writer to make money from the lens. When using these modules, the author of the lens gets 50 percent of the money that is generated from the modules on his lens. He can choose to keep the money for himself or donate it to a charity through Squidoo. Of course, Squidoo keeps the other half of the money.
Squidoo displays Adsense on each lens on their site. The money generated from the Adsense ads is not paid directly to the writer of the lens. Instead, Squidoo pools half of the money earned from Adsense and distributes it among the writers who have lenses on Squidoo. This is done to keep people from clicking on the ads on their own pages to earn money from the ads. This would violate Google. ’s terms of service for Adsense.
Now you know what a Squidoo lens is. In a nutshell, it is a way for writers, or anyone else for that matter, to build a content-rich web page about their topic of choice and have a chance at making a little money by doing so. Can you make a living by building a Squidoo lens? Certainly not from one lens, but Squidoo users can build as many lenses as they choose in as many topics as they choose, and there are quite a few Squids who make a decent amount of money each month from the work they have put into their Squidoo lenses.
